RIP, KENNARD JOHNSON,
DRUMMER EXTRAORDINAIRE The World lost one of the Blues'
greats on Friday the 18th of March
2005, when former James Cotton Band
leader/ Steve Miller Drummer Kenny
Johnson succumbed after a long fight
with Diabetes and other health
issues.
He died at home after completing his
last tour with New England's Sweet
Daddy Cool Breeze.
Kenny, known for being the deepest
pocket player of all time with the
blues ,was a gentle and
knowledgeable spirit with a ready
Smile and a love for most aspects of
humanity.
I had the honor to work as his
Roadie back when Sweet Daddy was
known first as Ken Johnson and
Company, then the BIG Valley Blues
Band which eventually became Sweet
Daddy Cool Breeze.
I will never forget the life lessons
i learned from the man, all the deep
blues i was positively bathed in,
the chain connecting his Bass Drum
to his Drum Throne, but most of all
I remember his smile.
Kenny will be deeply missed by his
friends and family, the blues
community and simple hippies like
me.
Rest in Peace, Kenny.
I love ya man.
